O‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ur text explains that “A playwright had to please all members of the audience, not only the mannered and education” (P958). Think about that idea because it may help you with your ideas for the final exam question. Reread the section preceding the play called “A Note on Othello” (P959). One point this section makes is that “It is a safe bet that it [Othello] will triumphantly live as long as fathers dislike whomever their daughters marry, as long as husbands suspect their wives of cheating, as long as blacks remember slavery, and as long as the ambitious court favor and the jealous practice deceit.” Do NOT try to cover all of these topics. Choose ONE focus only. Final Assignment With this in mind, establish a focused thesis and compose a two to three page essay explaining how/why this drama may have “pleased” members of the audience of its time and how/why it still relates to a wide audience today. Do NOT use several different thesis focus ideas–set up ONLY one in your introduction and thesis, and then maintain that throughout your essay. If you try to do too much, you will not have a well-developed essay. Be specific about how the drama still relates to today. Do you need a bit of research to show this, or can you use common knowledge parallels? Remember, they cannot be vague examples in a college-level academic essay. If you use other information from the textbook besides only the drama, you’ll have two citation lines on your Works Cited page instead of just one. MLA format applies just as it did in our other essays for the course. There is a chapter in the textbook that‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ discusses writing about drama and quoting from a play. You can refer to that to assist you, as well as using the resource folder in Course Content, the Writing Center, and other resources available to you. This is worth more of than previous essays. Complete this assignment and, when finished, upload in the Assignment Drop Box in the Unit folder. The essay is your final for the course, so be certain you give it the time and attention required for college-quality writing (ideas, format, and editing). You must include an intext citation even when you summarize a particular point from the drama and not only when you directly quote. Although you do not need to use additional sources other than our textbook, you do need to cite specifics from the drama and, possibly, other sections of the textbook. Be sure to include a Works Cited page and include intext citing in your essay. Your essay should set up ONE thesis focus, and you should then provide evidence from the drama and from life today to show the issue still exists. If you set up a solid thesis, it will be easier to have good transitions between paragraph ideas. Edit your work fully and carefully for college-level quality. There will be NO credit on essays without a Works Cited and in-text citing included, and there is not opportunity for revision on this assignment, so take your time and do well on this essay, adhering to all MLA format guidelines. I have provided a resource folder in Course Content. You should also look back over any notes provided on previous essays in the class. Intext citing is so important! I haven’t done well with that! Needs page cited too‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍!
